  • Abstract in English : This workshop will explore ways in which disabled and disadvantaged children are being encouraged to access adventurous activities using the natural coastal environment of Torbay, Devon. The workshop will look at the barriers to access and the importance of adventurous, physical and challenging activities and spaces for all children. It will explore the benefits of working in partnership and the success of the initiative for young people as well as considering approaches for the future. The workshop will be led by young people and include representatives from statutory and voluntary sectors. The scheme is looking for practical ways to encourage and support children to take up positive, healthy activities thereby reducing child health inequalities. It aims to build confidence and self-esteem, to increase risk assessment skills, to use the local environment as part of their heritage and to contribute to their quality of life.
