These days, landscape is considered one of the most important natural resources, not only from an environmental but also from an economical point of view. The quality of landscape can be crucial for recreational and residential areas, tourism, and even health. Most studies about landscape perception have only focused on one of these aspects: description, classification or assessment. The goal of this study is: 1) to obtain a taxonomy of the different types of landscapes which exist in Calicia, in north-western Spain, together with the classification criteria used by subjects; 20 to assess the scenic beauty of these landscapes following the main approaches to landscape assessment, to determine the contribution of each of them to the explanation of the judgements of scenic beauty by the subjects and to explore the relationship between the different approaches.
