- Abstract in English : : regarding the relationship of city and landscape, two main positions or planning have to be distinguished: at the one side, landscape is seen as separating element of city and suburbia. According to this view, greenbelts are design to protect a compact urban form. At the other side, landscape is seen as connecting elements in city regions, integrating them to regional cities, According to this view landscape is seen as a green middle. The leading question of this article is: which role can landscape play, at the one hand, to connect different settlements within city regions to a regional city and at the other hand, to separate city and countryside?
