- Abstract in English : OUTLINE: Meanings of place are an important issue in social science today. Arguments about modernity, post modernity, globalization and the information society often contain claims that the role of space and places in contemporary society is undergoing fundamental change. To some theorists, specific places become increasingly irrelevant. It gives rice to important questions about the roles and meaning of place in the everyday lives of women and men. The purpose of this paper is to outline a tentative analytical framework of mapping and understanding the attribution of meaning to places. The research indicates that meanings spontaneously attributed to places by the respondents can be mapped around and between the tree poles of self, others and environment.
- Comments/Notes : This paper is indirectly related to planning and landscape architecture. In relationship with literature on place attachment this paper maybe useful for a better understanding the meaning of open space. KEYWORDS: Place attachment, places, significance.
