  • Abstract in English : What, exactly, is a greenway? Is the greenway movement trendy fad or do greenways represent a long term, yet evolving, urban landscape form? From where did the concept of green way spring and where is it, or should it be, heading/ Thos paper suggests that greenways are a stabilized human endeavour, with roots that go back several centuries. More than just parks or amenities, greenways represent an adaptation – response to physical and psychological pressures of urbanization. They help mitigate the loss of ‘natural space’ owing to develop and provide a counterbalance to an expanding human dominated landscape.
