After discussing these changes and their implications for policy and decision making, two case studies are examined in the light of these issues. First a study of a controversy over urban deer management provides insights into how map conflicting values and search for common ground in a social context with increasingly individualistic values for wildlife. Second, a case study examining a ranching community faced with predator conservation and a growing urban influence is used to examine broader institutional issues such as property rights, equity, and economic considerations.
