  • Abstract in English : A major program of research aimed at measuring the quality of community life using subjective and objective indicators is described. This paper begins with a review of quality of life research that acknowledges linkages between objective and subjective measures. It then discusses the Detroit Area Study (DAS 2001), a major program of research aimed at measuring one aspect of quality of live – the quality of place or community life. Finally, the paper concludes with a discussion of the rationale for launching parallel studies in other world cities.
