  • Abstract in English : Urban forests and parks offer removed settings and/or refuges from everyday home and work environments where people can get away and enjoy the psychological and recreational benefits of privacy. Privacy in most environments is known to be a basic psychological need of humans. It has also been documented to be an important factor for people visiting forest and parks and has been shown to serve many beneficial functions during visits to these forested areas. The purpose of this paper is to present a conceptual basis for urban forests as privacy refuges, to document use pattern and the importance of urban forests and parks as privacy refuges, and to examine some of the preferred habitats and functions of privacy within these refuges. This research indicates that urban forest and parks (close to home) can serve as refuges where everyday privacy can be found.
