Vision for two neigbourhoods: Militari – Drumul Taberei

The projects aims the development of a strategy for two of Bucharests biggest neighbourhoods: Militari and Drumul Taberei. Build in the timpespan between 1960s and1980s, the two neighbourhoods occupy a great surface (the western and south-western tip of the city) along with industrial areas and housing a population of more than 300.000 people. The last two decades brought radical changes to the site: industrial plants were shut down, the growth of chaotic residential extensions at the periphery, permanent shrinking of public space. A vision of restoring broken links, creating new leisure areas and the development of a green infrastructure is needed. The concept turns to the versatility of the term ”binder”, seen as an ingredient used to bind together two or more other materials in mixtures. Its two principal properties are adhesion and cohesion. It binds a coating’s components together as a whole. The binders components are: infrastructure, public spaces for local actors, industrial tissue preservative. The strategy is also detailed on specific layers: space binder, social binder, green binder.
