- Abstract : Thanks to the location of Colombia in the equatorial zone, we enjoy the existence of great arboreal biodiversity with tropical character. In the cities, trees are fundamental components of open space. They are part of the fabric of the urban environment because: -They are natural habitat for fauna, they incorporate oxygen, they restore soils, and they create microclimates. -They are elements of urban and landscape improvement because they soften concrete masses, they generate security, and they contribute to social sustainability. -They are elemental components of equipment because they give character and identity, and they signal and give reference. At a minimum, they make the physical and perceptual daily setting more pleasant. Nevertheless, trees are treated with indifference. Undervaluing their bio-architecture does not guarantee their adequate selection, maintenance, stability, nor the minimum required conditions for their growth. For its arboreal flora, the landscape of the University of the Valley is considered a place of great ecological value in the region. The established biodiversity contains a patrimonial vegetative and animal resource that offers the average academic all of the potential for learning, investigating, and outreach and also for reflection, concentration, and sensitivity over the arboreal resources that make up an important part of the structural elements of the local culture and of the environment. ¨Árboles de la Universidad del Valle,¨ realizes the floristic richness of the university campus with illustrated technical pages that provide botanical and landscaping information over the characteristics, properties, uses, landscaping functions and recommendations for the reproduction and treatment of the trees that identify the landscape of the University of the Valley and consequently for the local landscape.
