Centre for Strategic Urban Research

The Centre for Strategic Urban Research is a research centre
focusing on the development, management and quality of urban areas. The main goal of the Centre is to conduct research that contributes to improving the foundation for policy decisions concerning the development of urban areas. The Centre conducts inter-disciplinary research through collaboration between
the University of Copenhagen, the Aarhus School of Architecture and Aalborg
University. The Centre was established in acknowledgement of the fact
that urban areas are currently undergoing developments that create new
challenges for urban and landscape policies. The centre has chosen the term ‘cities without limits’ to characterize this development. Urban
areas and their hinterlands no longer constitute a clearly demarcated units;
rather, they are part of larger global networks where cities and landscapes mixture. The Centre considers it
important to integrate research on architecture, planning and socio-spatial
issues, thereby helping to overcome the traditional barriers between the
various types of urban research.

In 2011-15 the Centre has special focus on the mediation of research to practice. In this endeavor the Centre collaborates with The Danish Town Planning Institute (www.byplanlab.dk).
