- Abstract in English : Several derelict industrial sites in the Greater Manchester area of north-west England are of regional ecological importance and numerous others have significant biological value. Similar findings are being made elsewhere in Britain. This indicates that ecological survey should be a vital part of reclamation-site investigations and the planning of after-use should take full account of wildlife interests. Careful design of reclamation schemes can, where appropriate, realize the potential for the protection and creation of habitats of high wildlife interest and amenity value.
