German contribution to the INTERREG IIIB project „Creating New Landscapes for Flood Risk Management“ alias „Floodscape“

Floodscape was a four year transnational project to develop innovative solutions to flood risk management. Part funded by the EU INTERREG IIIB North West Europe Programme, this partnership project uses seven pilot actions to demonstrate that flood risk management can be combined with other land uses in ways which are acceptable to the public and compatible with present and future spatial planning needs.

The Fulda Diemel pilot action was founded as part of the project by the Hessisches Ministerium für Umwelt, ländlichen Raum und Verbraucherschutz and has resulted in a Flood Action Plan for the catchment of the rivers Fulda and Diemel, a 8,700 sq.km area subject to flash fluvial floods. The Plan has been developed with the active participation of a range of regional and local organisations through a process integrating Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) with flood risk management solutions.
