Groen Hoek, the East River community Boathouse Competition was an open international competition to design a boathouse and its environment, for the community of Greenpoint in Brooklyn, New York. It was held in 2004, initiated by de New York chapter of the American Institute of Architecture.

The winning projects were chosen by a panel of architects, design professionals and local community members for their exemplary attention to the subtleties of the site, program requirements and local social demands. All proposals captured the vitality of Greenpoint and drew attention internationally on an undervalued area of the city of New York as well as proposed new alternatives for the renovation of the waterfront as public space. - Brief Description : Located in Brooklyn on the East River, site is defined by the skyline of Manhattan and emblematic buildings, such as the Empire State. This is a place affected by domain conflicts, by environmental degradation and isolation.
In 2004 it was held an international architectural competition focused on this undervalued area of New York city, which was about to initiate a transformation process (Bushwick Creek inlet at Greenpoint neighborhood, Brooklyn).
