- Abstract : Hedgerows are the most frequently semi-natural features on lowland farms in Britain. Their importance as wildlife habitats was described in the classic New Naturalist volume Hedges (1974) which also drew attention to losses of field boundaries then taking place as field sizes were expanded to increase agricultural efficiency. The continuing loss of hedgerows in the 1990s, and the need to update and advance hedgerow research carried out since the mid 1970s, provided focus for meeting of the Conservation Ecology group of the British Ecological Society at Wye College University London. Contents: hedgerow establishment and management, hedgerow as wildlife habitat, hedgerow history, hedgerow survey, implication to policy.
- Comments : KEYWORDS: Hedgerow, hedgerow management, biodiversity, history. UTILITY: lecturers/teachers, academic research, students of universities of professional education. This problem concerns a large part of Europe.
