  • Abstract : A book on the improvement of public spaces. The last half of the 20th century was devastating time for our cities and communities. The causes were many, but the most of the blame was urban renewal and suburbanizion (in USA). These two movements fueled by the design and engineering professions, focused more on creationg objects than on creating good urban spaces that serve people. Moreover, city agencies ware not responsive to the holistic needs of their neighbourhoods; more often the advanced the agendas of thier disciplines and departments (Treaffic, buildings, etc.) at the expense of creating good urban spaces. As result, may cherished public places have been destroyed, and opportunities to create new ones have been lost. This boor shows with the help of many pictures how public space could be improved in way that meet peoples need.
