- Abstract : Already bearing the burden of inferiority its name implies -- that of a frontier, of a limit -- the ”urban periphery” needed a long time in order to refine and redefine itself and thus to become an object of study. Seen as a parasite of the city, a place of abandonment compared to the prestigious city-centre, due to its intricateness and to its implication on the very definition of the city itself the periphery has progressively gained interest. The Urban Peripheries - Erasmus Intensive Programmes coordinated by Nürtingen-Geislingen University and hosted by UAUIM- the Faculty of Urban Planning explored the condition of the eastern periphery of Bucharest. Meanwhile a profound lecture identified apparent and hidden values of the area, ten scenarios try to reinstate Văcărești area with the quality of ”place”. Can Văcărești area become the green bastion of eastern Bucharest able to rebalance the green structure and to become a laboratory for experimenting innovative agricultural practices and new ways of dwelling?
