Brief Description : The urban "Karlsaue" park is located at the edge of the city center of Kassel, surrounded by "Roses Slope" and Fulda.
It was created as a baroque park around 1700, holding numerous water basins and canals. Due to its merely never ending dimensions, the park soon gained a focal point near the Orangery Palace, the summer residence of Landgrave Katl, Elector of Hesse-Kassel, until 1866.
At the end of the 18th century, the palace garden was turned into a landscape park, with respect to its baroque structure which is still visible regarding its view corridors and axes.
The island "Siebenbergen (Seven Mountains)" which is also called "Island of Flowers" due to its changing of spring and summer flowers is located at the end of the park.
Karlsaue Park holds important historic heritage and presents an important component of Kassel's application for World Cultural Heritage besides Bergpark and Wilhelmsthal Palace and Park. Picturesque, botanical diversity is preserved and maintained in the park as well as on the island.
