  • Brief Description : The Cheju Island is one of the most favorite destinations for both domestic and overseas tourists in Korea. It is about 70 kilometers long and 40 kilometers wide, and is under heavy development pressure. To protect its unique natural and cultural landscapes, five land types of different level of development controls are mapped by intensive field surveys. Any development proposal is referred to this map before getting permission. The dark areas in the map are preservation districts, and white areas are under different land use control systems as they are urban planning areas (along the coast) or the Halla Mt. (1950 meter) national park (at the center). The provincial government adopted a GIS system that can produce the conservation map with ease or compare development application with the conservation map very quick.
