Housing estate Vlčince, in the city of Žilina, is the area, where we observe unprofessional creation of living area with lack of identity and qualities. The goal is to renovate living space of housing development in a modern way. We suggest changes in a whole composition and divide this area into various, but unified areas with different functions and characters of plantations.
For achievement of needed identity we decided to give this area complex theme and call it “Seven Colours of the Rainbow”. We purpose to colour prefab concrete buildings and a few designed elements of particular courtyards by chosen colours of rainbow (green, yellow, orange, red, pink, purple and blue). In the facade of central building – “Nanterská Street”, we combined all the spectrum of rainbow’s colours.
As very important we considered connecting of peripheral parts with central street. We achieved this object by strips of green consisting of lines of trees (Acer campestre ´Elsrijk´) in combination with hedge (Fagus sylvatica).
The next object is transformation of this flat monotonous area into dynamic, full of different forms and variations of height. We propose the combination of terrain modelation and geometric design of raised beds. The natural undulating terrain changes in the direction of central area into geometric character. In the same time, the area of Nanterská Street is the combination of natural and artificial design.
In summary, we gave to this housing development identity and specific attributes, which help the residents be proud of it and appreciate this place more.
