- Abstract in English : Regulations to protect our environment are being less accepted by the public today than in the past. To counter this trend, the Federal Office for the Protection of nature supports the idea of creating special areas where people cab experience nature. Although small areas of this kind are necessary for children living in conurbations in particular, and not having unrestricted access to nature, the establishment of larger areas in the countryside may restrict the access to nature in general. According to the findings of environmental psychology, Germany’s cultural landscape as such offers many possibilities of developing a positive man-nature relation ship. One of the most effective ways to esteem one’s natural environment is hiking. Hiking and the idea of nature protection go hand in hand in a positive, symbiotic relationship.
