  • Brief Description : Maria-Restituta-Platz is a lively square in Vienna's 20th district, located between a shopping centre, a fruit- and vegetable market, an office building, and a metro station.
The concept for the outdoor design is based on the idea of a braid. Benches and flower beds are intertwined with one another and point towards the Danube like a series of waves. The entire area is structured by these elements and by the trees that have been planted there. From above, the design looks like a carpet, while at street level the beds, which are sown with grasses, sage, yarrow, and coneflower, act as a green and colourful bookend offsetting the hard lines of the shopping mall and metro railway bridge. A row of wide-canopy empress trees was established along the edge of the building to frame the square and provide a colourful highlight when they blossom in  April and May. Pedestrian and cycle paths linking the city with the bank of the Danube are integrated into the design of the square  (Lička, L.; Grimm, K. (Hg.)
