- Abstract in English : Urbanisation is a very important problem in The Netherlands. This is mainly due to a significant increase in the ratio of living space per person within the last years. Solving strategies have to take into consideration two basic points: multiple and efficient utilisation of the limited urban space; improvement of the living comfort and the housing conditions for the urban population. Urban renewal and urban development polices are calling for new innovative concepts like: multiple utilisation, revaluation, stratification of living and working areas and restructuring on a higher level. Many of these suggested solutions are discussing expressly the utilisation of the roof area. The following paper will present various examples of multiple utilisation of urban space in the Netherlands and analyse the main reasons for this now trend in urban planning.
