- Abstract in English : This chapter examines how the design of nursing home gardens affects the social, physical, and emotional health of nursing home residents. A review of research, observations of the use of nursing home outdoor spaces, and interviews with staff and residents of nursing homes were among the methods used. A set of design considerations was formulated based on behavioral and social science research on the physical health, individuals behavior, and social processes of the elderly. These concepts were evaluated through interviews with nursing home residents and qualitative observations of nursing home gardens. The chapter concludes with case studies of five nursing homes gardens and a set of design recommendations.
