  • Abstract in English : Preference judgements were obtained for a set of scenes consisting entirely of vegetation. The scenes, however, were systematically selected based on three ecological variables – type of vegetation formation, structural integrity and foliar density and fourth variable, extent of view. This study has demonstrated that the role of ‘naturalness’ and vegetation in preference are not simply associated with overt human-induced change or simply with any form of vegetation. Subtle but reliable differences can be demonstrated as a function of the type of vegetation and its structural integrity and the way these factors do or do not interact with the density of the vegetation formation and extent of the view. Discussed is why.
