  • Abstract in English : This paper describes the thinking behind current initiatives in the UK to improve environmental quality and educational opportunity in school grounds. It explains the ideas which have underpinned the research and development program of Learning through landscapes. Themes include: the use of school grounds in relation to formal, informal and hidden curricula; the design of school grounds as an educational resource; the development of school grounds; participation in the design process; and interprofessional collaboration in Education. It is illustrated by examples of primary and secondary schools where pupils and teachers have worked together with other members of the school community, artists and designers to change their environment.
