  • Brief Description : Seonyudo Island has long been the place from which the extraordinary scenery of Han River could be captured. In centuries old brush paintings by the famous landscape painter of Chosun dynasty, KyumJae, the beauty of the island are found. In the late 1970s, however, the island was turned into a water purification and distribution plant for the fast growing metropolis Seoul. After about 30 years of service, the plant was closed and the city decided to make it a park. In an open competition for the design of the park in 1999, a consortium of Seo-Ahn Landscape Architects Associate and an architect office and a consulting firm won the competition. They created a very strong sense of place by adopting the remaining structures as major design elements. Design work took eight months and construction work took 17 months and the park was opened in April 2002. It attracts many visitors steadily
