- Abstract : This publication will give the reader an impression of the investigation on the flora and fauna of the Dutch railways. The investigation has been carry out by the author in the period 1979-1989. The Dutch railroad has a length of 300o km, excluding 300 adjacent stations and shunting yards (railway embankments). The total area measures 13.000 ha. Due to habitat variation occurring on railway land the flora is very rich and diverse. In total about 1080 vascular plant species – of which 916 belonging to the official Dutch flora – heave been recorded, which is 63% of the Dutch flora. The rest of the species are adventitious or have escaped from gardens.
