- Abstract : Lawns in the sense of regularly cut grasslands belong to the most widely distributed plant-communities in housing areas. Up to now barely and synsociological and ecological research has been done. This study shows that the lawn of Southern Bavaria can be regarded as a separate plant-community. The more recent aims of nature conservation to secure and develop as many coexisting communities as possible lead to the demand to proceed in a more differentiated fashion when culturing lawns. Floristic diversified meadow communities should be developed mainly by reducing the frequency of cutting. Exceptions to this are in this context old lawns in historical areas, as well as intensively utilized lawns such as sports fields.
