- Abstract in English : Landscaped grounds and the inclusion of natural elements are important to residents living within the retirement community setting and may play a role in promoting psychological, social, and physical well-being among residents. Specific landscape elements are preferred among a variety of retirement communities throughout the United States. These include outdoor spaces that support informal and passive activities such as walking and talking with friends; gardening, nature observation of water, vegetation an fauna; and panoramic views of naturalistic softscape. As the residents’ world becomes smaller due to less environmental options as a result of loss of independence and mobility, a changing and expansive panoramic view becomes important
