  • Abstract in English : This chapter examines the links between emotional restoration and the physical environment. The interplay between the outdoor environment, perception, and emotional responses will be explored. The author concluded that Perception is as varied as each individual, his or her situation, and his or her mood fluctuations. Understanding the forces that drive human perception provides conceptual framework that enables landscape designers to sensitively design spaces that provide therapeutic benefit. The cycle-of-awareness model suggests to points of intervention that can be influenced by environment factors. Compensatory design and redirective design emerge as two distinct elements of therapeutic design. Each is compatible with the other. Establishing the primary modality for each project will clarify goals and provide direction throughout the implementation, thus enabling the creation of potent healing spaces.
