  • Abstract in English : Assessing perceived environmental quality has become an important focus for environmental managers. The use of a variety of techniques, most particularly color slide photography, to represent the environment to public groups has become widespread. Although color slides have been found to be a valid representation for judgements about the visual environment, these images are of limited use when the environment to be assessed has not yet been created or changed. Video images of environments offer a significant advantage in that the may be edited to show planned changes in management practices or design. The validity of these images in environmental quality ratings for slide and video images of three different environments indicate the two representations techniques are highly comparable. Suggestions for future research and management applications are offered.
