  • Abstract in English : The professional society of ecologists focused too much on the interactions among organisms (other than humans) and between organisms and their non-living environments. This article is an essay on the integration of landscape ecology and landscape design. The rise of landscape ecology in North America with the publication of Forman and Gordon (1986) Landscape ecology has created a new fusion between the science of ecology and the art of landscape planning. While ecologically minded landscape planners and designers have long been interested in the implication of spatial arrangement and temporal sequence of land use, this fascination has only recently struck ecologists in North America. In Europe, this marriage between art and science, called landscape ecology, has already excised for over 30 years. In North America, ecological minded landscape planners, who are often trained as landscape architects, must be responsible not only for ecological sound and for environmental decisions, but also for decisions, which bring delight through aesthetic appeal. The authors define the landscape ecological aesthetic as the union of landscape ecological integrity and aesthetic appeal.
