Brief Description : The newest initiative of EU is to signify quality and diversity of landscapes, as well as its natural and cultural values, established in European Landscape Convention (Florence, 2000.).
The goal of European Landscape Convention is protection, management and planning with all types of European landscapes (urban, rural, degraded, beautiful etc.) through introducing specific measures on national level, as well as cooperation on EU level.
Republic of Serbia signed this document in September of 2007. and undertook obligation to make assessment and characterization of all landscapes, by taking care of special values which stakeholders and citizens gave them.
Characterization of landscapes of Belgrade administrative area was done like first step in realization of obligations which are defined by European Landscape Convention. Documentation were reached from various fields which are mostly dealing with landscape (geology, geomorphology, hydrology, pedology, vegetation, land use, settlements). Analysis were done from the aspect of natural and socio-cultural values and previous typization of Belgrade’s landscapes. The purpose of detailed field survey has been to collect as much informations as is necessary to: describe the character, assist in final decisions about, division into landscape character types and areas, update and expand the database of desk study information with new and specific features.
Eleven types of landscape characters were defined on the base of all mentioned above. Each landscape type was explained as a result of physical, social and ecological influences with assumed dynamic of landscape developing.
