URBEM – Urban river basin enhancement methods

Objectives of Project: Urbanisation, and modification, of watercourses commonly causes severe degradation. Improving the water quality, ecology, aesthetics, amenity and social value of urban watercourses will increase the sustainability of European cities. The objectives of URBEM are to: develop tools to assess the potential for rehabilitation of urban watercourses; research urban specific rehabilitation technique; provide decision making support methodologies to let urban authorities undertake rehabilitation. These objectives will be achieved by monitoring and information gathering at urban watercourse study sites across Europe. The results of URBEM will give an understanding of urban watercourses, and allow more rehabilitation projects to be facilitated. A multi-disciplinary team of researchers, consultants and urban authorities will undertake the work, and allow extensive dissemination of the project results
