  • Contents in English : To evaluate scenic quality for visual assessment, empirical data on landscape perception and preference are needed. Traditional means of acquisition in perception research and public participation have serious disadvantages, for example high costs or difficulties in participant accessibility. Internet survey techniques in empirical visual landscape assessment was investigated. This internet survey has proved to be an objective and reliable instrument for gathering valid data on landscape perception and visual landscape assessments. It is probable that the assessment of the peculiarity of landscapes cannot be done by the general public by use of an Internet survey, according to the results of the study presented. But nevertheless, online visual landscape assessment can be an appropriate means of acquiring scenic quality data from people having the necessary background knowledge to assess the peculiarity (i.e. local people or landscape assessment experts familiar with certain regions).
